'Cuse only falls to #7

Amazingly, the Syracuse Orange fell only two spots to #7 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll. The Orange lost to Pitt on Saturday afternoon at the Dome, but beat a pretty good Seton Hall team last Tuesday.

West Virginia, who was also previously unbeaten before losing to Purdue, also fell two spots to #8.

Not a bad turn of events and it shows that 'Cuse is still viewed as a very strong team.

Was Andy holding his cards?

My first reaction to this afternoon's pitiful performance against the Cowboys - utter disgust.

My second reaction - extreme anger.

My third reaction, however, is a bit optimistic...so take warning. Could Andy Reid have been so sick and so crazy to actually not think it was all THAT important to win on Sunday? Did he purposely hold back so as to not show the Cowboys all of his cards for their gigantic match up next week?

It sounds crazy, but Dallas couldn't have been THAT dominant. The Eagles looked dead and unmotivated. The Cowboys looked like the best team in the conference, which I still do not believe that they are.

For a positive spin, maybe Dallas showed the Eagles everything they had and the Eagles can take the tape, study it, and create a battle plan for next week...at which point Andy will unleash hell.

I warned you that this was optimistic, because on the other side, maybe the Eagles are in really big trouble!

What is it about New Years'?

New Years’ is not one of my favorite holidays. All it’s about is drinking and socializing, which I’m all about. What annoys me, however, is that all anyone asks from mid-December until the final day of the year is “what are you doing for New Years’?” This is as if there is no other important thing that could be happening in one’s life. Why does someone need to have plans? What if I didn’t have plans? Would I be a loser? What would that person say if I indeed had no plans?

The truth is that everyone has to make plans, but this causes stress. I’ve been in more fights about New Years’ plans than anything else in my life. You first make plans, but then someone else asks if you want to do something, but you say you already have plans – but then those plans fall through – and then the other person has new plans so now you’re stuck with no plans and have to come up with a last-minute idea that ends up being no fun at all.

Okay, maybe this doesn’t happen to everyone. Nonetheless, this stress is not worth the fun that so many people seem to have on New Years’. I actually find it depressing to look back on the year and see what has passed and what may never happen again. I always seem to notice that I’m getting older – that my childhood is gone forever – that I may never be in this certain situation ever again. To be honest, the whole holiday just makes me depressed.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but New Years’ sucks! Well, have a good one anyway!

Like the Internet needs another blog...

So I am not new to the Internet and I get it...there are a lot of blogs out there. When someone who writes a blog tells someone who doesn’t that they do, the response is usually something along the lines of “why do you think your thoughts are so important that you need to publish them to the world?”

The truth is that they aren’t…well, that is unless you are a famous celebrity or athlete or politician or some well-informed news or sports writer who has legitimate stuff to say. Everything else is pointless, except for the fact that there are pointless people out there looking for new stuff to read.

I recently watched the film Julie and Julia that showed a young writer who uses a blog to cash in on a publishing deal (yes, I’m aware to some people there’s a lot more to that film than that). That is NOT me. I am not a writer nor am I looking to become one. I don’t use a journal to write down my thoughts and I don’t particularly like to write.

My point with all of this is that there are some people with things to say, but most times people really have nothing to say at all. Though I admittedly have logged on to my Facebook account every day for the past five years, I understand the critics who pose the question “why does ANYONE care what you are doing right now?”. The fact is that not everyone does. However, I have learned that more and more people are spending their time reading pointless crap. In that sense, blogs, in their own way, are indeed worthwhile.

It is with that preface that I introduce you to my blog. This blog is about my thoughts, so, yes, many of you might not care. Thank you for reading this much and have a nice life. However, for those with nothing to do, I welcome you. I am a high school teacher with a communications degree from Syracuse University (my snobby side will be sure to include that the degree is from the Newhouse School). I have grown up my whole life in Southern New Jersey, about a half hour outside of Philadelphia. I enjoy sports, but specifically, that passion is focused on the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles and Syracuse University athletics. If you live in Wyoming and have not one interest in anything that I just mentioned, then you will probably not like my blog.

I have written a blog before and I understand that there has to be some sort of meaning behind it. I used to run a web site about a theme park. Yes, a web site, about a theme park. Believe it or not there’s a pretty strong niche of fans of theme parks. I would write about new rides and random things about the park…things that would probably bore you. On that web site, I added a blog…but before long I realized there wasn’t all that much to write about.

I am not a reporter and this is not my full time job, so I don’t plan on delivering any breaking news of any kind. I will try to write frequently, but I totally don’t expect there to be much of an audience. In fact, in trying to come up with a name for this blog, my initial idea was to call it “No One Cares About This Blog”. In fact, that is the e-mail address you may use (noonecaresblog@gmail.com) if for some reason you want to contact me. orangeredgreen refers to Syracuse, the Phillies and the Eagles. It is probably what I will write about most, but I am open to discussing anything really. I’ll admit, I have not had an incredibly interesting life, so I don’t have great stories or tales to tell.

All in all, I have probably convinced most of you to never read this blog again, but that goes back to my main point. Enjoy if you like, but if not…so what, it’s just a blog, isn’t it?
